PICTURED ROCKS NATIONAL
LAKESHORE PARK
(6-15-2000)
Munising, MI; This year Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
is participating in the President's Green Energy Parks program
with a special funded grant to use bio-soy fluids and lubricants
in selected park equipment.
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore chose to use bio-soy products
because they meet the goals of the Green Energy Parks program,
as well as are safer for employees to handle and are biodegradable
in case of a spill or release.
On
June 1, 2000, soy-diesel was blended into the park's diesel
fuel tanks. All park diesel equipment will use this
20% soy blend. In addition to the benefits mentioned
above, soy-diesel results in cleaner burning engines with
fewer emissions.
Other
products being used include soy-based lubricants, hydraulic
fluid, two-cycle oil, and crankcase oil.
Following
are pictures from Pictured Rock of a soy-powered dump
truck and John Deere tractor. For more information
