In the summer of 2004, Jones Soda Co. of Seattle,
WA began running their two traveling promotional RVs on a biodiesel
blend. Since the Fall of 2004, they have been filling up with B20
at public pumps across the country and have used the NBB website
as a resource for locating the pumps.
One of the RVs travels throughout the Midwest, the other up and
down the West Coast, stopping at schools, skate parks, concerts,
extreme games and other venues, to promote their products. The
company is preparing to order new vans for their sales force and
will order diesel-powered vehicles so that they can use biodiesel
fuel.
According to Chris King,
Director of Field Marketing for Jones Soda Co., they like biodiesel
because it’s homegrown, better
for the environment and their RVs run better on the fuel.
“We want to do whatever we can to help support American
agriculture,” King said. “Biodiesel is one way to do
that and has the added benefit of helping to reduce air pollution
and our dependence on foreign sources of oil.”
King explained that whenever they pull an RV into a school or
college parking lot, students always comment on the smell of the
exhaust coming from the RV.
“They’re astounded to learn that the vehicle is being
powered by soybeans,” King explained. “Many students
compare the smell of biodiesel exhaust to that of french fries – a
much more pleasant aroma than regular diesel exhaust.”
