Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH

For the fourth time since 2003, The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH has been honored with the Environmental Leadership Award by Hospitals for a Healthy Environment, a non-profit organization focused on improving the environmental performance of the healthcare industry.  Using biodiesel blends in its fleet and grounds vehicles is one way Dartmouth-Hitchcock is helping to protect the environment.   The Medical Center uses blend levels of B5 and B20 in diesel equipment and vehicles including:  tractors, a loader, a tool cat, ambulances, trucks and a van.

According to Grounds and Automotive Services Supervisor at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Paul Goundrey, they have had “no problems” since switching to biodiesel blends about a year ago.  “Part of the reason we made the switch was to lessen the amount of particulate matter and reduce the diesel odor in our tractors.  In the winter especially, fumes can get into the cab.  Since switching to a biodiesel blend, our drivers notice the diesel odor is much less pronounced and really appreciate the difference.”

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) is New Hampshire's only academic medical center. Internationally renowned, nationally ranked, and regionally respected, they integrate high-quality patient care, advanced medical education, and translational research to provide a full spectrum of health care.

St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, CA has also been using a biodiesel blend in boilers and generators since 2001.
