LetterCampaign Join us in supporting Biodiesel, a domestically produced and environmentally friendly fuel, displacing more than 1.1 BG of fossil fuel every year!

Biodiesel is the first and only EPA-designated Advanced Biofuel to reach 1 billion gallons of annual production. This growth is an incredible success story stimulated in part by the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), the bipartisan law that requires minimum volumes of renewable fuel in the nation’s fuel supplies. The industry has exceeded volume requirements under the RFS each year of the program, and is on pace to do so again this year.

This campaign is about continuing the momentum for 2014. The EPA has begun its formal rulemaking process for 2014 volume requirements under the RFS, which means it's now time for the biodiesel industry to step up our advocacy for an increase in the Biomass-based Diesel category.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

• Send a letter to Congress:

We are calling on all biodiesel supporters to weigh in as soon as possible with a letter to the EPA and the White House about this important decision. To make this easy, we have prepped a template letter posted here on our Fueling Action advocacy website, which includes all the information you need. Please encourage your colleagues, friends and family members to submit letters as well. This will only take five minutes!

• How to send the letter:

Simply enter your information into the boxes provided including; your first and last name, address, and e-mail. Click the SEND button and your information will be automatically inserted into the template letter and sent to administrators at the Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Management and Budget, The White House Office of Energy and Climate Policy, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

• What’s the purpose of the letter?

The EPA’s draft 2014 volume proposal is now undergoing interagency review and won't be made public until later this year. Our industry has proven it has the capacity to continue its successful growth, but given the attacks on the RFS this year, it is imperative that the biodiesel industry make its voice heard. We have met several times with OMB and EPA and are pressing for a volume increase for Biomass-based Diesel.

%3cp%3eI have seen first-hand the impact of biodiesel in my community as it has grown from a niche fuel just five or six years ago into a nationwide industry with more than 1 billion gallons of production and plants in nearly every state in the country. It is creating tremendous benefits in terms of job creation%2c economic growth%2c emissions reductions and energy security%2c and I am asking you to continue that progress with a modest%2c sustainable volume increase for 2014.

%3cp%3eAs you know%2c biodiesel has exceeded RFS targets since the RFS began%2c becoming the first and only EPA-designated Advanced Biofuel to reach 1 billion gallons of annual production. Again this year%2c the biodiesel and renewable diesel industries are on pace to significantly exceed the 2013 RFS requirement of 1.28 billion gallons for Biomass-based Diesel. Through the end of July%2c the EPA reports more than 870 million gallons%2c with five months remaining in the year. The industry anticipates conservatively that annual production will reach at least 1.7 billion gallons.

%3cp%3eLooking to 2014%2c any RFS volume requirement below that amount would be a significant setback for the biodiesel industry and for our shared goals of diversifying the nation’s fuel supply and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore%2c I urge you to support a reasonable Biomass-based Diesel volume increase above the estimated actual production for 2013%2c or at least 1.7 billion gallons.

%3cp%3eAgain%2c the benefits of a growing Biomass-based Diesel sector are clear%3a

•	Currently supporting some 50%2c000 jobs and billions of dollars in GDP%2c income and tax revenues.%3c/br%3e%3c/br%3e
•	Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 57 percent to 86 percent%2c according to the EPA.%3c/br%3e%3c/br%3e
•	Diversifying fuel supplies so consumers aren’t beholden to unstable global oil markets.%3c/br%3e%3c/br%3e
•	Displacing imported petroleum diesel%2c keeping profits and economic growth at home.

%3cp%3eIn supporting a strong RFS%2c the Obama Administration has helped make all of these things happen.  I urge you to continue the momentum next year with a modest volume increase.
