| Biodiesel Powers Winners of GM and DOE ‘Crossover to Sustainability’ Contest
WASHINGTON, D.C.– The National Biodiesel Board applauds the contestants in the U.S. Department of Energy and General Motors’ Challenge X: Crossover to Sustainability student engineering competition for their use of B20 blend biodiesel. The top three winners all used B20, a blend of 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent diesel, in the Chevrolet Equinox that each reengineered for the competition.
“NBB is delighted to see the future generations of engineers harness the power of biodiesel,” said NBB CEO Jobe. “We applaud the Department of Energy and General Motors for their leadership in encouraging advanced powertrain technologies that use biodiesel to offer more sustainable choices for America’s energy future and the environment.”
Of the 17 total teams, 12 used B20. The Mississippi State team won first prize for the second year in a row, and used biodiesel both years. The University of Wisconsin team took second place. Ohio State University garnered third.
