With annual capacity growing every year, biodiesel plants are an important part of our energy future. As biodiesel use and demand has grown, so too has the number of plants and the diversity of their locations.

The biodiesel companies listed within this section have indicated they are still considered operational. However, due to current economic conditions, the capacity utilization at many of these facilities is extremely low.

Total annual production capacity of these plants is approximately 2.737 billion gallons. It is important to note that production capacity differs from the actual number of gallons sold. A graph illustrating biodiesel production can be found here.

In 2008, we began the process of verifying stated production capacities using documents such as air, water, construction or discharge permits that companies have filed. A check mark in the verified column indicates the company has provided the documentation verifying their stated production capacity; however, it does not mean the company is actually producing to capacity. At this time, no check mark in the verified column indicates the company is still assembling their documentation.

Multi Feedstock is a term used to describe plants that can use a variety of feedstocks. In most cases, this means a plant is able to process vegetable oils, animal fats, recycled cooking oil or yellow grease.
